Ausstellung New York in the fourties
May 4, 2024 - Jul 14, 2024
Bitburg
Andreas Feininger is one of the pioneers of photojournalism and a great photographer. His photographic works of the city of New York taken in the 1940s are all classics of photographic history. The photographer Andreas Feininger (1906-1999) was the son of the famous painter and Bauhaus master Lyonel Feininger and, after training at the Bauhaus, went on to study architecture. When the Second World War broke out, he emigrated to the USA, his father's homeland. There he initially photographed street scenes in New York as a picture editor for "Life" magazine. Since then, he has continued to photograph the city from many different angles, making photographic history in the process.
A collection of 93 New York photographs by Andreas Feininger will be presented in the Neue Galerie in Haus Beda. Some of the photographer's old "Life" magazines and cameras are also on display.
The exhibition is a cooperation with the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen
