Römerweg - Rundweg rund um Speicher
Speicher
Due to the large clay deposits between Speicher, Binsfeld and Herforst, an extensive Roman pottery industry developed here at the end of the first century AD, which continued until the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century.
Finds of excavated kilns whose firing chambers were still filled with intact pottery,
lead to the assumption that the Romans fled the area in 410 to escape the invading Franks.
The circular route leads through the area where several kilns were excavated and large quantities of clay pots and bricks were found.
The trail is marked - but we also recommend navigating by GPS.
