Bitburg
The Bitburg-Prüm District Museum is taking part in International Museum Day on Sunday, May 18, 2025 with two events. At 3 p.m., museum director Burkhard Kaufmann will be presenting a new series of contemporary witnesses from the Eifel region: These are selected objects from the collection with which a special story is connected: a coin treasure tells of the end of Roman times, a baroque chest of the travel possibilities 200 years ago, a stone relief commemorates Johann Schweisthal from Bitburg, who was accused of being the "king of witches" at the time of the witch hunts. Other pieces tell of the end of the Second World War 80 years ago. At 16:00, there will be a guided tour How the Eifel became a smugglers' paradise in 1923 as part of the special exhibition "Crisis and awakening - the year 1923 in the Bitburg-Prüm region".
