Geistliche Abendmusik
Aug 8, 2025
St. Thomas
In honor of Archbishop Thomas Becket of Canterbury, who was murdered in 1170 and canonized in 1173, a convent of Cistercian nuns (the oldest in Germany) was founded in the Kylltal around 1185. 840 years later, the Palestrina Circle, founded 99 years ago, held its annual summer meeting here and prepared a “Spiritual Evening Music” that will be celebrated on Friday, 08.08.2025 at 7:30 PM in the St. Thomas Monastery Church. Where for centuries the praise of God resounded from the mouths of the people within the venerable walls, the pipe organ by Alfred Führer from 1989 and the magnificent acoustics provide the ideal setting for this. At the same time, the program of the evening music honors the Council of Nicaea, which formulated the still-valid “Creed,” the confession of faith of the Christian churches, 1700 years ago. Together with elements of the Vespers of the Roman Office and moments of silence along with sonorous choral singing, a spiritual evening hour is created. The congregation also joins in the praise of God through their own singing and active listening.
Admission is free. You are warmly welcome!
