Eifelgold Route
Irrhausen
One of the most idyllic valleys in the Eifel is waiting to be discovered on this hiking route: the Irsen valley. The trail leads to impressive all-round views and former mills that now invite hikers to stop for a rest on the picturesque valley floor. This wonderful valley is ennobled by the Ginsterheiden (“gorse heathland”) nature conservation area with its steppe grasses, whitethorn bushes and the yellow flowering gorse bushes in the spring - the “Eifelgold”. The Irsen valley is not only famous for its fossil-rich shale rocks, but also for the nearly 550 species of butterfly that live there, of which 145 are on the “red list” of endangered species. The Irsen valley recreational area with its reservoirs and nature education path is a good place to enjoy a relaxing picnic.
