Emperor, king, nobleman, citizen, peasant, beggar - this is how an old children's counting rhyme begins, which goes back to medieval ideas. How did people live at that time? How did life in the village differ from life in the city?
Gertrudis von Romairovilla takes you on a short journey through the history of Kyllburg and its collegiate church. The tour starts at the beginning of the Hochstraße (in front of the Eifeler Hof). From there it goes to the presumably originally oldest parts of Kyllburg around St. Maximin. Today's church was built after the war to replace the destroyed late medieval parish church. The oldest church from the Carolingian period, when Kyllburg was the original parish and this part of the town belonged to Prüm Abbey, probably stood on this site.
Over the Bergsattel with the Wilhelminian-style houses on Hochstraße, the route leads to Stiftsstraße, the former castle town of the Trier bishops. Stiftstraße has largely retained its old narrow streets and many old walls. Passing the old keep, you reach the abbey district and the abbey church, which is one of the most important Gothic church buildings in the Eifel and houses a wealth of art treasures. In the seclusion of the cloister, you feel transported back to the medieval world of the canons.
