What many people don’t know is that—far from the traditional beer-producing countries—an incredibly creative and dynamic beer culture has developed here in recent years. The craft beer movement, in particular, has given rise to a new generation of young, daring breweries in France. Their beers are hoppy, experimental, sometimes wild—but always full of character and individuality.
Italy also has surprises in store: In this so-called wine nation, a vibrant beer community thrives with its own unique approach to the art of enjoyment. Here, not only are extraordinary interpretations of classic beer styles being created, but also fascinating beer-and-wine hybrids. The famous Grape Ales from Piedmont combine the best of both worlds—grapes and malt in perfect harmony. Of course, the Italian way of life is an essential part of it all: Indulgence, lightheartedness, and “Bella Italia” are also reflected in the beer culture.
