Classical and folk music from the North with the Røto Trio

Norwegian musician Ragnhild Hemsing (Hardanger fiddle, violin) has been closely connected to her homeland’s rich folk music tradition since childhood. She began playing the violin at the age of five, and shortly thereafter, the traditional Hardanger fiddle as well.
Together with Benedict Kloeckner (cello) and Danae Dörken (piano), she explores not only her own musical roots but also those of the renowned Norwegian composers Edvard Grieg and Johan Halvorsen.

Grieg was deeply committed to the cultural depth and richness of Scandinavian music. Halvorsen is certainly not quite as well known here as his older colleague Grieg, yet the evening’s most famous work is his. Or more precisely: he arranged it, since the Passacaglia for Violin and Cello is, as is well known, based on the Passacaglia from George Frideric Handel’s Suite in G minor.

Halvorsen’s mastery of arrangement brings out the timeless beauty of the melody wonderfully. The evening promises a captivating performance full of passion and musical depth. Immerse yourself in the sonic diversity of Norway!
