Klein-Museum Ardennenschlacht geöffnet

On March 1, 1945, American troops captured Malbergweich. A focused time travel experience, from and after February 28/March 1, 1945, with reports on the battles around Staffelstein / diaries / photos / films and changing exhibits that illuminate everyday life and the end of the war in the region.

The capture of Malbergweich was preceded by a fierce tank battle at the strategically important height of Staffelstein. Here, the Wehrmacht attempted to deny the Americans advancing from the direction of Nattenheim and Fließem access to the Kyll crossing in Kyllburg. Additionally, it was to be prevented that the Americans fell behind the German front, which stretched far westward north of Staffelstein.

The events of those days and the village life in the 1930s and 40s were documented by a small team in an exhibition in the community center in Malbergweich. Information gathered from many sources, eyewitness accounts, films, and original reports from American troops portray a picture of this dramatic time.

Particularly helpful and impressive were the research conducted by the Historical Working Group of the Bitburg region in the 1990s and the interviews with eyewitnesses who were still alive at that time.

The museum is usually open on the 1st Sunday of the month.
