The four musicians of the Swedish-Norwegian string quartet call themselves “Opus13.” And they will also perform an Opus 13 in the ballroom of Haus Beda—namely, the String Quartet No. 2 in A minor by the young Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, after whom they are named. “This music is full of youthful passion; it sounds incredibly emotional,” says cellist Daniel Thorell. Founded in 2014, the quartet is one of the most promising young ensembles in Europe and won second prize in 2022 at the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition in Canada. Opus13 has been invited to concert series and festivals such as the Utrecht International Chamber Music Festival in the Netherlands, the Rusk Festival in Finland, the Swiss Chamber Concerts, and most of Norway’s major chamber music festivals, including the Bergen International Festival. Opus13 has collaborated with prominent musicians such as Janine Jensen, Olli Mustomen, Julia Biss, Tabea Zimmermann, and Jonathan Biss. The ensemble is the founder and artistic director of Vinterspill på Lillehammer, a chamber music festival held in the winter resort town of Lillehammer.

Sonoko Miriam Welde (violin), Edvard Erdal (violin), Albin Usuijärvi (viola), Daniel Thorell (cello)
