As the moderator and chief spokesperson for Tagesschau, he has become an institution in the German media landscape.

He is regarded as a symbol of trustworthy information and shines with his broad knowledge.
His popularity is reflected in surveys: Among others, he was awarded by the market research institute Emnid as Germany's most popular news presenter.

In addition to his work in the news business, Jan also devoted himself to moderating TV talk shows. His first major position was the NDR talk show before he enriched the German media landscape in the early nineties with the format Riverboat.

The show became one of the most successful talk shows and achieved outstanding ratings with market shares of up to 30%. After 21 years and 415 episodes, he passed on the moderation in 2012.

He also conveys his profound knowledge in countless lectures as a sought-after speaker and moderator, primarily in the areas of "the news behind the news" and economics.

In December 2020, Jan bid farewell after 36 years as the chief spokesperson for Tagesschau.

As a true media professional, he gladly took on the next challenge: In 2021, he participated in the RTL dance show “Let’s Dance” and finished in fifth place.

Soon after, he took on the responsibility for establishing the new news magazine “RTL direkt.” He has been shaping the program for three years, which has quickly secured a firm place in the German media landscape.

In social media as well, Jan has built a significant community with his likeable demeanor.
In particular, together with his wife Phong Lan, the two delight their following with much humor and offer glimpses into their shared life in Mallorca.
