The Bitburg and Speicher region, in close proximity to Luxembourg, Belgium, the Moselle and the Roman city of Trier, forms an independent nature and cultural area of the beautiful Eifel Mountains. Large stretches of deciduous and coniferous woodland alternate with orchards, agricultural cropland and meadows; vast heathers and fens alternate with bizarre juniper bushes and hedges as tall as houses. Numerous small rivers and streams, castles and fortresses in small villages and towns exude a medieval charm.
